From IT to cost control: the multi-faceted career of Mona Ben Salem!

22/01/18

Mona Ben Salem has spent her entire career as a service provider for EDF group. During this time, she has worked in a variety of positions. In April 2017, she joined Dunkerque LNG's Parisian-based team as an accountant in charge of cost control. She enjoys her job immensely and also gets to visit the LNG terminal once or twice a week, where she serves as the liaison between business managers and suppliers.

"At my age, I have a long career behind me already, and I've spent practically the entire time working as a service provider for EDF group", says Mona Ben Salem, who graduated with a degree in computer technology. In 1982, her first job was as a programmer. "I was in charge of testing IT programs and adapting tools to fit EDF's specificities", she says. After 1996, Mona Ben Salem pursued her career with another group subsidiary, where she took care of IT requests and configured HR and management software. "After that, in light of the demand from customers, I changed jobs. I had pretty much seen everything that I could do in IT programming. Luckily, I was in a group where I could switch careers easily. So, I became a cost controller for EDF plant deconstruction projects", says Mona Ben Salem, who worked on several major sites during this stage of her career. "It was against this backdrop in 2012 that I joined the project management assistance team that was working with Dunkerque LNG on the construction site of the LNG terminal. There, I worked as a cost controller with contractors and their suppliers. I really liked working on the second largest construction site of France". When Mona Ben Salem was offered the opportunity to join Dunkerque LNG in April 2017, when the terminal became operational, she jumped at the chance. "Every day, I interface between suppliers and Dunkerque LNG's business managers and check that the invoice matches what was ordered, especially with respect to cost", says Mona Ben Salem. "It's demanding work, but I find it thrilling! " When she isn't travelling between Paris and Dunkirk for work, Mona enjoys practising yoga, painting at a fine arts school, and playing cello in the orchestra of her city's music conservatory.

In conclusion, she says: "The Dunkerque LNG quickly made me part of the team, and I'm so happy to be a part of the adventure after this first year of commercial operations".
