Dunkerque LNG and its territory

Dunkerque Flysurfing Club sets its sights on the Olympics

The partnership agreed between Dunkerque LNG and Dunkerque Flysurfing Club even before the terminal opened is continuing this year. The kitesurfing club, which has 300 members and its own school, is beginning a promising season. And the goal that Anaïs Mai Desjardins, a young member, is targeting is the 2024 Olympics. We get a start-of-season update from Vincent Renaux, President of the Dunkerque Flysurfing Club.

"The partnership between Dunkerque LNG and Dunkerque Flysurfing Club began in 2012. Kitesurfers used to practise at Le Clipon, a huge area of dunes located between the west port and the Break dyke. When work began on the Terminal site, they had to find somewhere else to practise. Dunkerque LNG financed the purchase of a nine-seater minivan, a 4x4, a Zodiac and a quad bike so our members could easily get to other spots. They also helped to employ an instructor, Aymeric Cegelski, helping the launch of our Les Petits Riders school and the Riders team.

A young member is targeting the 2024 Paris Olympics

Dunkerque Flysurfing Club is now France’s biggest kitesurfing club, with 300 members aged from 8 all the way to 70. Some of our members get fantastic results in competitions. Anaïs Mai Desjardins, 21, is the French champion in women’s kitesurfing. While also studying medicine, she’s set her sights on the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. This will be the first time that kitesurfing will be included as an Olympic discipline – what amazing recognition! During the season that recently began, we’re also going to host fantastic competitions including the French mountainboard and kitesurfing championships, on the sand.

Continuing our partnership with Dunkerque LNG is really important to help us carry on. Soon, we will be pleased to welcome around a dozen of Dunkerque LNG employees, who will discover the joys of board sports with us. A great opportunity for us to get to know each other and share experiences!"
