First safety and environment day for the LNG terminal

10/07/17

On 27 June, Gaz-Opale, the operator of the Dunkirk LNG terminal, organised a Safety and Environment Day on the site for all employees and sub-contractors. This was the first event of its kind since the commercial start-up.

Its goal is to make all stakeholders aware of the themes of safety and the environment through enjoyable, participatory events.
After an opening speech by Valérie Friess, Gaz-Opale's director of operations, two group activities were on the menu:

  • The "Quiz des dunes" ("Dunes quiz"), during which participants were able to discover the fauna and flora surrounding them through a quiz and a guided tour by the Centre Permanent d’Initiatives pour l’Environnement Flandre Maritime (the Maritime Flanders Centre for Continuous Environmental Initiatives or CPIE).
  • The creative challenge, whose goal was the appropriation by the terminal’s teams of the golden rules in place. Rather than running a safety campaign using posters developed by an agency, the management decided to involve employees, by asking them to propose an illustration for each golden rule. These illustrations will be reworked by the agency and will become tomorrow’s posters in the facility.

This day was a resounding success with the teams, who came in large numbers.
