Dunkerque LNG and its territory

Dunkerque LNG fully supports the Dunkirk seaport's efforts to expand its capacities

22/01/18

In a stakeholder's report published at the end of 2017 during a public debate on the expansion of the container terminal at the Dunkirk port, Dunkerque LNG expressed its support for the project, which could turn Dunkirk into one of the future leaders of LNG loading for vessels.

With over 2,200 people participating in the meetings held during the public debate, 39 stakeholder's reports written, 6,050 unique visitors to the dedicated website, and over 2,500 conversations with citizens recorded during the mobile debates, it's clear people are interested in the project to expand the container terminals at Dunkirk's port.

Because Dunkerque LNG's terminal is located in Dunkirk's port, the company is directly impacted by the project. That's why the EDF subsidiary chose to express its viewpoint clearly by writing a stakeholder's report. For Dunkerque LNG, the expansion of the port represents a major improvement to its infrastructure that meets its future needs with respect to logistics and transportation in the region. It will support the social and economic growth of Dunkirk and the surrounding inland region.

Dunkerque LNG is convinced that this project, which will make it possible to service a greater number of vessels, also provides the Dunkirk port with an amazing opportunity to position itself in the maritime LNG distribution market, which is on its way to becoming the number-one alternative fuel source of the future. In fact, major maritime and road transportation companies are already making the switch, including one of the world's largest shipbuilders, CMA-CGM.

The port of Dunkirk and Dunkerque LNG signed a partnership agreement last June to build a land-based LNG fueling station. This work is in line with the container terminal expansion project.

On the basis of this reasoning, Dunkerque LNG is providing its full support to the project. The company is convinced the increase in world maritime traffic will have a positive and long-lasting impact on the region. The port's expansion will also make it more competitive, which will help advance its strategy to capture more global maritime traffic and have a positive impact on regional industries and its partners.
